Joint Enrollment Program for High School Students

Georgia Tech is proud to work with high school juniors and seniors who wish to pursue college studies before completing their high school career. To qualify, students must be jointly enrolled at their high school and Georgia Tech.

Students admitted into the program may register for a maximum of 8 semester hours in math, science, or computing courses that are not available through their high school program of study. The program at Tech is an opportunity to enrich, but not replace, the high school experience for students who have completed the highest level of coursework available on the secondary level. High school juniors who wish to bypass their senior year are encouraged to pursue our Early Admission Program.

Because degree seeking students have priority to entry level courses such as Calculus I, Chemistry I, and Biology I, Joint Enrollment students are primarily eligible for enrollment in second level courses such as Calculus II, Chemistry II, etc.

Admission for Joint Enrollment is competitive and based on course availability. The minimum requirements to be considered for the Joint Enrollment Program are:

  • 1900+ SAT score (Critical Reading + Math + Writing)
  • 3.6+ GPA (on Georgia Tech's recalculated scale)
  • Must be concurrently taking high school level coursework while enrolled at Georgia Tech
  • Must have completed the highest level of coursework available at the high school in the subject area(s) that are scheduled to be taken at Georgia Tech. Courses to satisfy the College Preparatory Curriculum may not be taken at Georgia Tech.
  • AP/IB/SAT II scores or college transcripts qualifying for Georgia Tech first-level course credit (see www.admission.gatech.edu/ap for qualifying scores)

For consideration, applicants must submit the following items to the Office of Undergraduate Admission by the April 15th deadline:

  • Completed application for admission available at www.apply.gatech.edu. All applications must be submitted online and applications will be considered for fall semester enrollment only. Our application for Joint Enrollment will be available by February 1 each year.
  • $65 Joint Enrollment application fee
  • Official SAT and/or ACT scores (SAT/AP code: 5248; ACT code: 0818)
  • AP/IB/SAT II test scores directly from the testing agency
  • Accel (Joint Enrollment) Program Application, if applicable - (please note that computing courses are not currently funded by the ACCEL program)
  • Official academic transcript from an accredited program of study including midterm grades for the current year. High school programs should be accredited by a regional authority (SACS, MSACS, NCACS, NEACS, NACS, or WACS), a state's Department of Education, or certain Georgia authorities (Georgia Accrediting Commission, Georgia Private School Accrediting Commission or the Accrediting Commission for Independent Study.
  • College transcripts from prior institutions if student has previously completed joint enrollment coursework

Send all transcripts to:

If your school is not accredited, please consult one of the many colleges/universities in the Atlanta area that do allow students enrolled in non-accredited programs to participate in their joint enrollment program.)

Accel Program:

The ACCEL Program is for Georgia residents classified as high school juniors and seniors at accredited public or private high schools in the state of Georgia. The program allows students to pursue postsecondary study at approved public and private colleges and technical colleges while receiving dual high school and college credit for courses successfully completed. More information on GSFC's ACCEL program is available at www.gsfc.org.

Accel Funding:

  • Students are required to pay the same tuition, matriculation fees, student activity fees, medical fees, and parking fees (if applicable) charged to all other regularly enrolled students.
  • Tuition costs as well as some book and fee costs for math and science courses are typically covered by the ACCEL program.
  • After a student is admitted to the program, Georgia Tech's ACCEL advisor will direct the student and high school counselor to complete the necessary online application for ACCEL funding.

Accel Registration:

  • Students may not register for courses outside of math, science or computing. Students will be permitted to register for up to 8 credit hours per semester at Tech in mathematics, sciences, or computing. Permission to register in these areas, however, will be permitted only when the student has completed all courses offered at their high school and the high school can certify that the student has no other option to complete high school level coursework (students may only place out of classes through AP/IB/SAT II examinations or college level coursework).
  • Computing courses are not currently funded by the Georgia Student Finance Commission's (GSFC)ACCEL program
