Years at Tech: 4 as an Undergraduate Student, 2 in Admission
Favorite Thing about Georgia Tech: The people and the attitude. There are always new ideas and creative solutions floating around. No matter a student or faculty’s discipline, Yellow Jackets get excited to solve problems to help Atlanta and the world. It’s a challenging and positive environment that I haven’t found in other places.
Favorite Place on Campus: There’s a sunken garden situated near the library. It’s really quiet and most folks pass by without realizing it’s there. I like going there for some peace on a busy day.
Favorite Place in Atlanta: Decatur Square. I’ve lived in the Decatur area for a while, and I love the small town feel with the big city amenities. I can go to the square and run into friends, eat at an eclectic restaurant, hear live music and shop for some local art – all without my car!
Favorite Restaurant near Campus: Taqueria Del Sol. I eat here almost weekly, and consider a must if you are visiting Atlanta. While everything is good, I am a consistent fan of the carnitas taco, and never skimp on salsa asada. It’s good to set your expectations, and know you aren't going for Mexican food, but rather incredibly good Atlanta food that happens to be tacos and enchiladas.
What I recommend to do while in Atlanta: If it’s summer, Shoot the Hooch (tubing down our Chattahoochee River), or just go on a local hike. My top recommendations would be East Palisades Trail or Sweetwater Creek. Otherwise, I love finding local festivals to explore or grabbing a meal at Krog Street Market and walking along the Beltline.
