Frequently Asked Questions
Why was I admitted for summer, when I applied for fall?
Enrolling students for the summer term allows us to expand our first-year class size and reduce individual class sizes. Students in years past who have started classes in the summer have told us they appreciated and valued the chance to get a jump start on their time at Tech.
What are the dates of the Summer Session?
iGniTe students will begin classes on June 17, 2020. However, students should plan to be available and have their schedules clear starting on June 14, 2020, to accommodate for move-in, getting settled on campus, and attending summer first-year FASET orientation.
If I have plans for the summer that conflict with summer classes, can I switch to the fall term?
Students admitted for the summer term cannot change to the fall term. While we understand you and your family may have already scheduled summer plans, we hope you will view this opportunity to begin your Georgia Tech experience early as a short-term decision with long-term benefits.
Is this a conditional acceptance?
No. Summer students are part of the first-year class, and make up approximately 18% of our first-year class.
When is orientation and course registration? How many classes will I take?
All incoming first-years beginning in the summer will attend Summer First-Year FASET Orientation in June. FASET orientation will include academic advising and registration for two to three courses. More information can be found on the iGniTe Summer Launch program website.
What if I have advanced credit?
Most students entering in the summer bring either AP/IB or dual enrollment credit. Students with significant credits will still find sufficient course choices. Academic advisors and the Registrar’s Office will work with students individually if building a suitable schedule becomes a challenge.
What is the cost of attending the late short summer session?
Costs, payment due dates, and financial aid information can be found on the iGniTe Summer Launch program website.
How and when do I apply for financial aid?
The summer and fall terms are separate academic years which require separate financial aid applications. See the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid for application instructions.
Will housing be available?
Housing is available for the summer session. More information can be found on the iGniTe Summer Launch program website.
