The School of Physics views this discipline as a window to an incredible world of exploration and application. Students who plan to pursue majors in STEM are encouraged to take our first two calculus-based Physics courses.
PHYS 1111K: Introductory Physics I (4 hours, fall offering)
PHYS 2211: Principles of Physics I (4 hours, fall offering)
PHYS 2212: Principles of Physics II (4 hours, spring offering)
Students will need access to a computer and smart phone for labs.
Each course will have three tests during the semester and one final exam.
Exams are on paper and proctored in person.
Free tutoring is provided online through Knack platform.
All Physics courses will be taught in a hybrid format with asynchronous lectures and synchronous recitations and labs. Students will register for either 8:30 AM or 6:00 PM recitations and labs.
Physics 1111K: Consists of 3 asynchronous hours (Three 1-hour sessions) and 2 synchronous hours (Two 1-hour sessions) each week
Physics 2211 and 2212: Consist of 3 asynchronous hours (Three 1-hour sessions) and one 2-hour synchronous live session
An introductory course which will include mechanics (kinematics, dynamics, work and energy, momentum and collisions, and rotational motion and statics), and will include thermodynamics and waves. Elementary algebra and trigonometry will be used.
An introductory course which will include mechanics (kinematics, dynamics, work and energy, momentum and collisions, and rotational motion and statics) and may also include oscillations and computational methods. This is a calculus-based course.
