At Georgia Tech, our motto is Progress and Service, and we value students who make a positive impact in the places that matter most to them. This could be through your college, community, workplace, family, or other commitments.
Students involved in their colleges, community and/or with their family exhibit a contribution to their community. Students’ interests and responsibilities are different, and there is no correct formula for this portion of the application.
Please also list your work experience within the past two to three years. Include employment dates (start and end) and weekly time commitment (hours per week) for each position. Indicate if employment is seasonal only (summer and/or winter break) or year-round.
Students often ask what makes a good record or they believe there are certain things they need to list on their record. We are most interested in learning what you are passionate about, and we value the different interests our students bring to Georgia Tech. Some of the traits we value in this section include creativity, commitment, self-motivation, personal responsibility, compassion for others, initiative, leadership, and an entrepreneurial mindset.
Typically, students are involved in a few activities in a meaningful way. We highly recommend you list and describe the significant or transformative impact you made. Include details on leadership, level of involvement and time commitment (I. e. hours/week or hours/month).
This information should be submitted as a 1-2 two-page document in resume format. View this helpful guide of how to format your contribution to community.
Highlight research, internship, family responsibilities, awards/recognitions, and other experiences as important contributions. We highly recommend listing activities connected with your major. If you choose to share projects, please describe them using clear, concise language and include who or what benefited from the work and why it mattered, in a way that can be understood by readers from a variety of backgrounds.
The Contribution to Community form is optional, but highly recommended.
